REMINDERS

  • If you have not paid your child’s $25.00 student fee, please do so as soon as you can. There is a link to SchoolCash on the REC website (https://rec.ccrce.ca) or you can send in cash/cheque (cheque made payable to “REC”) to the main office. A receipt will be issued.
  • When students are being picked up by someone other than their parents/guardians, please be sure the student has a note from home to give permission.
  • Students are reminded to bring their WATER BOTTLE or CUP. Unfortunately the school does not have cups available and all the water fountains in the school are filling stations.
  • When dropping items off items for your child during the day (i.e., lunches, lunch money, clothing), please have your child’s name on the item to leave in the main office for pick up.
  • Please remind your child to dress for the changing weather as recess breaks and lunch breaks are outdoors as well as some classroom activities. It might be a good idea for your child to have a change of clothes in their locker in case they have clothing malfunctions or get wet. The school does not have extra clothing.

Parents do not have to come in to sign your child in.

Bus Arrangements

Students cannot change their daily bussing arrangements and must travel on their regularly assigned bus.

For bus inquiries and/or concerns (late buses, bus stop locations, bus times, lost items on the bus, child care arrangements, etc), please call the Bus Office.

Bus Office: 1-866-428-4696, option 2 for East Hants.

Picking Your Child Up Early or For Appointments

When students are leaving during the school day, prior to dismissal at 2:25pm, parents/guardians must come into the Main Office to sign the child(ren) out.

At that time, your child(ren) will be called up from their classroom by office staff (please don't call to advise you're on your way). If your child has an appointment, please plan pickup times accordingly.

For the safety of our students, we can no longer send students out to meet drives from calls to the office.

Students must be signed-out in the office.

Changes to Routine/Transportation at the End of the Day

If there is a change to your child’s planned routine at the end of the day (they need to take the bus home or are being picked up instead of taking the bus, etc), please call the main office and speak to office staff prior to 2:00pm to be sure the message is relayed to your child before the end of the day.

Main Office: 902-758-4660

Picking Up Students at the End of the Day (Regular Routine)

For students being picked up at the end of the day (at 2:25pm), please use the upper parking lot as you wait for your child to come out.

You do not have to call the office or come in to sign out as this is your child’s regular way of travel.

Your child will go out when the walkers and students that are driven are announced at 2:25pm.

Water Bottles

Students are reminded to bring their water bottle or a cup.

Unfortunately, the school does not have bottles or cups available.

Cell Phone Use

Please refrain from texting or calling your child’s cell phone during the day.

If it is an emergency to reach your child, please call the main office.

Picking Up Students (Someone Other Than Parents/Guardians)

When students are being picked up by someone other than their parents/guardians, please be sure the student has a note from home to give permission.

Dropping Off Items for Your Child

When dropping items off for your child during the day (i.e., lunches, lunch money, clothing, etc), please ensure your child’s name is on the item for pick up from the main office.

Lost & Found

All lost and found items are kept on a table in the Foyer until the last school day of the month.

Be sure to check the table if you lose an item (lunch bags, book bags, clothing, etc.)

If you lose keys, glasses, jewelry, electronic items, etc. please check in the main office.

Scent-Free Reminder

Just a quick reminder for staff, students, parents/guardians and visitors of Riverside Education Centre, we are a Scent Free Building.

A number of students and staff have sensitivities to strong scents found in a number of personal products.

We ask that all Students, Staff and Visitors of REC refrain from wearing products with strong scents. This includes perfumes/colognes, strong scented deodorants/creams/sprays, etc.

Thank you for your understanding.

Dress for the Weather

Please remind your child to dress for the weather as recess breaks and lunch breaks are outdoors as well as some classroom activities.

It might be a good idea for your child to have a change of clothes in their locker, in case they have clothing malfunctions or get wet.

The school does not have extra clothing.

Notifications by Text from REC & CCRCE

Don't forget to opt-in to receive text notifications from REC & CCRCE.

Text “Y” to 978338 to receive texts.

If you do not opt-in, you will not receive text messages.

This text messaging system replaced the Alert system from past years.

These texts will be from CCRCE and Riverside Education Centre regarding school cancellations due to snow/roads, late buses, early dismissals, upcoming PD Day, etc.

NOTE - REC is part of the Nova/East Hants area. Please note that sometimes schools are only closing in certain areas of the CCRCE.

School Closures During the Day

CCRCE rarely cancels school mid-day due to weather or road conditions. However, there may be other factors, such as power outages, that may result in a school closing unexpectedly during the day.

In the event that schools close early, CCRCE recommends parents/guardians keep their contact information up-to-date with your children's schools and have alternate arrangements in place.

Should a mid-day closure occur, parents/guardians will be notified by alert message, via local media, our website and social media.

https://www.ccrce.ca/school_information/inclement_weather

If the power outage is close to the regular afternoon dismissal, we will wait until regular dismissal to dismiss students.

Phone lines will be busy, or possibly down at the time, so please do not call or email the school in the event of a power outage.

School Registration

Have you moved to REC's catchment area and have a child going to attend REC?

Please call the school at 902-758-4660 ext 2032 to set up an appointment to come in to register your child.

If you are moving and your child will be starting REC in September, there will be a day at the end of August to come in to register for September, but you can call to let us know about your move anytime.
